I'm from a suspenseful December 23 night
that turned into a snowy Christmas Eve afternoon
filled with blessings and a lot to celebrate.
I'm from tractor rides with Dad
Banana pop sickles and Nickelodeon
on Grandma Noretta's leather chair.
I'm from Grandpa Gene's black labs
and sewing with Grandma Darlene
From daycare at Lisa's,
best friends forever.
I'm from first days of school
with a class of 16 that moving changed to 100.
From a lifetime of afternoons spent
in the gym with Mom at practice.
I'm from a family of 5
Dad wit our identical laid back humorous personalities
and Mom being completely opposite, but equally good.
From being the overbearing oldest child
who always cheats and wins at Candy land
and scarcely lets others get a word in.
I'm from 2 younger sisters
Kori the quite sneaky middle child
who calmly show no emotion
From Kiley thief of my birthday
my carbon copy youngest sister
who gets lost in the shuffle.
I'm from families rich in history
receiving more than just a name.
From stories of boxing, horses,
softball, and hard work.
I'm from traits and values that
will forever dwell in the depths of my personality.

Kaci,
ReplyDeleteThis is a delightful poem! I particularly loved these lines:
From being the overbearing oldest child
who always cheats and wins at Candy land
and scarcely lets others get a word in.
I can barely imagine you cheating at Candy Land! Oh my gosh! You don't seem like the type. What a hoot!!
Great poem!
